Mobile phones are a huge part of modern everyday life; for many of us, they hold everything about our lives. From work emails to personal messages to endless photos, it’d be difficult to keep anything from our devices. Doesn’t that essentially make it a hacker’s dream?
If all of the data needed to understand our human intentions and actions is on one tiny device, then why wouldn’t a hacker take advantage? Why hack a work laptop to access corporate information when you can hack a phone and access it all—work, personal, the lot?
The problem is that these mobile phones—these useful all-encompassing informative little “boxes”—are simultaneously everything we need and everything we don’t. While they make life easier in numerous ways (from contacting those we need at the drop of a hat to working on the go), they actually put us at the most risk of losing our privacy to cybercriminal strangers. What has become our reliable digital sidekick has also become, inevitably, our downfall.
