TalkTalk experienced a major breach on their website and customer database resulting in the theft of over 150,000 people’s personal identifiable information, much of which was not encrypted. This had an immediate dramatic impact on TalkTalk with their share price dropping in value and public pressure increasing with stories circulating in the press. TalkTalk engaged BAE Systems to begin an extensive IR engagement to determine the scale of the attack and take necessary actions to bring them back to a state of stability.
BAE Systems provided a full spectrum of our IR services including board engagement advising them on the immediate actions they needed to execute to reduce the impact. We leveraged our forensic capabilities including big data analysis of log information to determine the nature of the attack and how it was moving across their network.
BAE Systems helped TalkTalk maintain its operations during the breach and isolate the attack. As part of this work we increased their organisations overall understanding of cyber security and helped define and execute a security plan focused on taking risk-based decisions to improve their IT estate via upgrading and streamlining activities.
