Talion Cyber Summit 2023 – Recap Of The Day! - Talion

On 11th July 2023, Talion staff, our technology partners, customers and prospects gathered in Britain’s first ever SOC – Churchill War Rooms – for the Talion Cyber Summit. This underground nerve centre is where Churchill led Britain to victory in the Second World War. The museum now navigates the public through once secret corridors where complex, instinctive decisions had to be made to protect Britain from their wartime enemies. Today’s Security Operation Centres (SOC) have been in cyber warfare for over 20 years, so it was a great venue for discussing how to develop cyber resiliency to increase security protection.

As we kicked off the day with an Asian-style buffet lunch and complimentary audio guided tours, attendees got the chance to introduce themselves and network in the iconic Harmsworth Room, home of the 1940’s electric generator and complete with LEDs, switches and dials!

In case you missed it, here’s what was discussed:

What’s Happening In The Cyber Landscape Right Now?

One of Talion’s lead Threat Intelligence Consultants spoke about the current global threat landscape, highlighting key origin countries of cybercriminal activity and emerging threat actors. You can find out more about our Threat Intelligence Consulting Services and where your organisational risk lies here.

Hear From Our Technology Partners

We welcomed to the stage three of our technology partners, including DEVO, Cofense, and S-RM to share their knowledge and expertise on what factors should be considered when building an end-to-end journey to cyber resilience.

The partner talks began with a deep dive into data intelligence and finding the most important needle in the haystack – because in overcrowded machine data, spotting that hacker isn’t so easy. With data explosion and overwhelming workloads, organisations must start thinking about working their SOC more effectively, with a community of apps, greater scale and speed and base OOB capabilities.

This was followed up by a talk on the four components of an effective phishing defence – technology, humans, known threats and unknown threats. The latter is what organisations often miss or poorly identify.

To conclude, the audience was shown the impact of breach readiness and the lack of it across a timeline of an actual breach. From the method of entry all the way to attempted repeat access, the timeline illustrated how readiness and preparation impact the success of minimising breach damage and the importance of protecting a company from potential liability by managing a breach properly.

Customer Talk and Q&A Panel

We concluded the day with a customer and partner Q&A panel and had great conversation over audience questions, from security team challenges to what organisations should look out for in the current cyber landscape.

Our goal for the Talion Cyber Summit was to provide the attendees a chance to rethink the way they approach cyber resilience within their organisation. We believe that cyber resilience is key to building a strong backbone in any organisation. We hope that all our attendees took with them new ideas that will help them continue to improve their cyber resilience, keeping their companies, customers, and employees safe from cyber criminals.

What’s Next?

We’ll no doubt be back next year for the Talion Cyber Summit 2024!

Until then, we are planning a series of CISO Cyber Dinners at Michelin-star restaurants across the UK – an event for security experts to come together and discuss trending cyber security topics over a small, intimate dinner.
