Snack Attack! - Talion

Ransomware attack creates KP Nuts and Hula Hoops shortage with McCoy’s and Tyrells crisps also hit.

In the last 12 months, we have seen a number of food suppliers taken down by ransomware attacks, resulting in an impact to supply.

In June 2021, we witnessed one of the largest ransomware attacks to hit the food sector, against US meat supplier JBS meats. This attack saw the organisation pay a $11 million ransom demand and had operations across Australia, Canada, and the US, temporarily shut down.

A ransomware attack does not end once a payment is made, or a resolution is met. A ransomware attack can affect your organisation for months, if not years post attack, that is if the attack has not bankrupted your business first.

Ransomware gangs do not discriminate when it comes to which sector they target, meaning all organisations have to take this threat seriously. If not, you could be next.

Next Steps in the fight against Ransomware

A first step for your organisation is to read the key roundtable takeaways from our Ransomware Briefing for UK Businesses. Our panel of experts discussed their thoughts on what the cyber security landscape looks like, what governments should be doing to support businesses, and the tools needed to help protect against ransomware. Listen to a full recording of the roundtable here.

Additionally, our Ransomware Perceptions Report surveyed the attitudes of more than 1000 UK employees and 200 IT Security Professionals to document their views on whether these attacks are a failure of cyber security, if cyber insurance is making the problem worse, and if paying ransomware should be made illegal.

#RansomAware: Share Your Story

Talion is a founding member of the #RansomAware initiative that motivates organisations to share intelligence on ransomware attacks. We’re encouraging businesses to join the community and share their stories using the #RansomAware hashtag and help fight back against the onslaught of ransomware attacks.
